Glendale, AZ.
I re-named my Midas Pup. He sure acts like a puppy. Recently I just started petting him, now I can stroke him a lot! And they say they're aggressive...
Sometimes he bites at the glass so hard his jaws make a loud snapping sound and he gets pushed back by the force. Sometimes he jumps and hits the lid really hard. Oh yeah, and he comes at me fast when I get up close to the tank, often crashing into the glass wall. Once I was trying out new foods for him, and when I was walking back to the kitchen I saw out of the corner of my eye him jumping pretty high. He tried to get out. So now I never leave the lids open unattended. He's been consistently growing an inch every month now, I've had for about 7 , and he's about 7 inches now. I just did a water change yesterday, and he attacked my algae scraper and algae scrubber. That latter of which he tore some thread off of. He often makes things difficult by following the scraper around, I need him out of the way when doing maintenance, because I've been bit when he didn't have teeth and being only 4 and a half inches then, wasn't too strong. That hurt enough. Now he has teeth and they seem to be getting longer every day. And I know how hard he can bite from the algae scraper. However, it seems like he's trying to affectionately nip me when I pet him. After all, he can't always be mad at me. He's adorable...

Hello monster fish keepers. I've had a Red Devil Cichlid for exactly 31 days! His name is Jamin. I was wondering, is he a A. labiatus or A. citrinellus? He's really grown his body out (a full inch) and he looks stockier than when I first got him. I would love it if he is a true Red Devil! Apparently breeders often mistake one species for the other, resulting in hybrids. I personally love the design of A. labiatus, as it's sleeker than citrinellus's build. I look forward to the many years I get to spend with him! Lastly, can he eat blueberries, strawberriers, or any human fruits/veggies that aren't listed as cichlid diet suggestions/requirements on standard fish sites? Pix are from today. Tank setup: 75 US gal, 1 heater, 1 large aqueon bubbler, Penguin bio-wheel 350 power filter, gravel, 10 plants, and 1 Amphilophus sp. Jamin's diet:
Pineapple, lettuce (just now), mango, crickets, bloodworms (favorite food), oranges, cichlid pellets, rarely cichlid flakes, algae wafers, krill, and King Crab (for Christmas). That list will grow as he does! Thanks for any helpful info, or info in general.

Its very good for giving veggies to red devils, as I have a 7" devil, and she's growing up fast lol. Yours looks like a full blooded devil.

I bloody love these fish! One of the most personable of all fish imo! Such a shame they can’t get along with anything else (except maybe a pleco).

Enjoy him!!
