Yea, carp are sweethearts after a spiny catfish. Carp have soft-rayed fins and not a single spine or barb anywhere. Them you can cuddle with!
From my experience, you need to let the large fish wear themselves out a bit. Catch them in a large towel or a bed linen, keep in water, hold them as best you can, perhaps pin them down, and let them struggle in there for 5-10-15 minutes (if they rip it to shreds, so let them rip), after which time they calm down a lot, being oxygen deprived, and then guide them into that sling, which is a great idea.

I was letting them have the first and second big "fight" and then moving them, all when rather smoothly.
Obviously, I'll have to build another home for them as I feel the big Niger is still to big for this pond. I think I best do some reading up on fiber glass tanks with viewing windows.
