Thanks alot appreciate the info.basslover34;3053588; said:Not an RTC... High Ammonia levels will cause the redness in the Whiskers and tail as well... I'm going with either that or it was being beat on by a tankmate.
You can definetly eliminate RTC though... Lets see some more pics![]()
Thanks. The tank run between 76-78. I think it's helping with healing process alot!!!perfect_prefect;3057045; said:there is no question that it is a bullhead. doesnt look anything like a rtc or an artc for that matter. 78 is very warm since the bullhead is a native north american cold water species. try posting pics of it in the native section there are alot of bullhead keepers on there, or possibly in the outdoor pond section, there are alot of members with bullheads in there non heated outdoor ponds.
I shall!ahodge84;3057245; said:What you did was very commendable. Be sure to keep us posted on his progress.
great info! His whisker is looking good.necrocanis;3059184; said:100% not a rtc like everyone else says it's a bullhead of some sort. Maybe a speckled bullhead. Bass was very correct about high ammonia. Watch for early signs of fin and tail rot like the weathered whiskeres. Salt and heat are a good treatment along with daily water changes. You will see that red whisker fall off eventually. Infections can set in very easily there. Tank by itself, and do daily 10-20% water changes until the whiskers form a ball at the end where it will grow back. Trust me this works wonders. Keep the lights off in the room it's in also or cover the tank. Less stress=faster heal time.
It looked like a RTC at first(never seen a baby in person so IDK really)and I was just thinking of making this huge tank and I was just going to go for it. Can't say i'm sad that I don't need a tank that big, lol but I'm glad I saved him. He looked like he was on his last fins.Noddy;3059375; said:I like you style!
Taking in a fish and stating you'd build a big tank if nescesary, only to find out you won't need to after all! Good luck with this monster.
THAT"S WHY WE"RE CALLED :"MONSTERFISHKEEPERS"
OUR FISH DON"T GROW TOO BIG,
OUR TANK BECOMES TOO SMALL!!
Thanks I'll keep everyone updated.chefjamesscott;3061796; said:judging from the pics i think the water he came from has killer level of ammonia those look like ammonia burns
