Exactly! Reading through the story you posted I kept hearing cash register sound effects as I got further in. Modding that gun would be a crime against humanity.

No doubt. Here is the wiki article related to the cargo ship this rifle was on...

In due time. I cant wait to shoot her but Im not a fan of the cold so its going to have to wait.

What do yall think....should I paint the receiver to match the wear on the rest of the rifle or totally paint the rifle and bring her back to a factory new finish?

I don't really know much about AK's but man that looks nice.. Personally i'd leave it the way it is.. Won't painting it count as a MOD or change from it's original condition and reduce the value ??

Its hard to say. Its kind of like the WWII surplus stuff today. Back in the 50's and 60's the surplus rifles were cheap and plentiful and people would refinish them and sporterized them as they were cheap and plentiful. Of course now we know that this destroyed their value and ones in original configuration are worth more.

Of course my rifle is not near as common as some of the WWII stuff, but for what ever reason people dont seem to be concerned about repainting them....as long as the paint closely matches the original finish.

Here is what it could look like once refinished.

what a beaut!

I say leave it as it is. Gives it character and you dont want to unnecessarily risk its value.
