Personally I like this guy's idea for overflows. The bulkheads are underwater, but they won't overflow in the event of a power outage. The waterline is actually where the pipe is that's going into the buckets (prefilters).

this will work as well. i used a 2 in pipe and I'm confident it can handle most pumps that are ideal for my tank.
all depends on the 'do-er' of the action really. (Since its DIY).

well im gonna go with 2 3 inh pipes on each side. i want it o be able to hand about 3000 gph... i wud prolly just hae it do like 1200 though...
