Like most fish when you have a lot of one species they compete for the food. I have SD ranging from 2" to 13". They go nuts at feeding time. When my smaller ones grab a pellet to big to swallow the others will chase and try to grab it out of its mouth. My jumbo dollars still eat with the same voracity as when they were little. They dart up snatch food like when they were small they just make a bigger splash now when they do it. They even suck down the tiny granules drifting in the current that I feed to the smallest SD.
