The Snapper Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well it's been a while since I had a snapper. Here are a few pics of the last one I had in his feeding tub. I found him while walking my dogs on the State Game Lands near my house in the early fall of '04. I'm pretty sure it was run over by a tractor/mower because it had some big dings in it's shell and it's plastron was cracked. It was stuck in the mud next to a dried up drainage pond. It took the snapper home, patched it up and kept it indoors over winter. It was the most laid back snapper I ever met. Never tried to strike or anything. In the spring I put it in one of my turtle ponds and they dang thing crawled out during the night and was never seen again. It guess it was healthy enough to make the journey back home!

Great thread, Armando. Is your turtle a Mexican Snapping Turtle? (C. serpentina rossignoni)

There aren't many MFK'ers from Mexico, good to see there are some monsters South of the border!

Here's a few photos of Snappy, my Common Snapping Turtle.

Hi Dan.
