Also, if the fish was suffering in too hot water, they wouldn't be in the mood to eat.

Actually, I believe MN_rebel is correct. Chinchin are just baby tilapia that will pick at any food you put in the tank (including dead skin). Once they get too large they are not useful for this purpose. Apparently the "true" Dr. fish is the garra rufa.

Thats allright. ChinChin are ripoff and often called False doctor fish. Whatever we ordered the doctor fish from China, we got baby tilapia instead of garra rufa. Chinchin are so cheap than garra rufa. Chinchin is pretty worthless as they will end your business in 3 months anyways when they got their first set of teeth and your first customer complaint...get real garra rufa but its pretty very expensive.
