The start of my monster tank 8x2x30"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im using 3/8" glass and 1/4" angle iron is plenty of support. thats not going to be the only support. im not using some low grade home depot steel either. i do plan to make the tank 36" front to back and this is not my first plywood tank.

1/4 inch angle iron won't cover the end of 3/8 glass

1/4 is 2/8 (slightly less than 3/8) perhaps you could draw a picture?

****

or are you saying the iron will be 1/4 thick?

Angle iron measurements are generally side-a X side-b X thickness X length

So assuming 1/4 thick, what will the sides measure ?

no the thickness of the iron is 1/4" they are usually 3" wide on each side. Its going to go around the tank kinda like a 3d frame... they are pre-bent 90º come in 12' sections then i was going to trim the entire tank in it

I feel better now 3 x 3 x 1/4 inch angle iron sounds much better; you (or I) had me worried ...

lol, i think it was you but my wording could have been clearier. also im going to sheet the entire tank( front, sides and top with 1/16" polished stainless steel to give it an even more Stout appearance.

well sense i decided to skin the entire tank with a thin sheet of stainless i'll be able to weld the angle iron together without catching the wood on fire.do you think i should still put a few lag bolts for extra support and cosmetics?

I don't think the aro and fronts will mix. I had a 22" redtail aro with a 12" front and the aro beat the sh8t out of my front. Good luck on the construction of your tank.....:)

well i plan to introduce a small aro to a colony of larger fronts, kinda giving the idea to the aro, they are boss. and if it doesnt work out then i will remove one of them.

I would say that would be enough room for the colony of front and aro. How many fronts are we talking about?
