BLAH!!!! - conference week and ive gotta go in with a temp. of over 100 :(

OK - hows everybody's year going?

I was thinking about this thread a while ago, thanks for the bump.

My year has been kind of rough. I changed classrooms and haven't been able to get my classroom tank set up, plus I got slammed with a class of 34 4th/5th graders. Since we are a school with 9 grades and seven teachers, things can get tricky number-wise...

On the plus side, I just found out that next year I will only have 19 or 20 fourth graders. This will be the first time in my teaching career (8 years certified) that I teach only one grade. In the past I've taught 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 1/2/3, and 2/3/4 - I won't know what to do with just one grade! :headbang2

Wow Dan - The last 8 years I have been teaching a k-1 combo. All those combos help make you a better well rounded teacher buddy.

Fiscally this year is bad and next year really bad, our state is in shambles. On a good note, I did not get a pink slip this year FINALLY!!! Class wise its been tough, I have kids with so many MAJOR life issues, from being homeless, poor, and being abused. My students are such a major factor in why I try to be a strong person inside and out....

Teaching the little ones is incredibly demanding. For some kids (quite a few in your case) school is the only safe/stable environment in their life. Being responsible for so much of their well-being is a huge weight, but also very fulfilling.

Good luck with the situation, I'm glad you finally have a little job security. As long as they can keep the schools open that is....

It is really too bad that people won't make schools a priority. I realize that liberals, conservatives, and everybody in between have different views about what we should spend our tax money on. However, it seems like education ought to be the one thing we could agree on. A society that can't give its children a quality education is destined for bad things. Children really are our future, like it or not!
