I havent had algae on the plants and glass since i started using this product, it dont work if your tank have algae already, it just prevent the tank to have more algae. That I've heard also. But for cleaning not so much.

So it won't get rid of old but will prevent more from growing? I guess I could try one. I just watchef the video of Joeys build of one again.I havent had algae on the plants and glass since i started using this product, it dont work if your tank have algae already, it just prevent the tank to have more algae.
Here they did a test with two tank, one with twinstar, other without. So it won't get rid of old but will prevent more from growing? I guess I could try one. I just watchef the video of Joeys build of one again.

Congrats on the new tank. We are still waiting your tank and poly threadAs far as tanks. Gotta keep lookin thru Craigslist. I just picked up a oceanic 120g with stand for $150. It was local and thick glass. I just rebuilt the stand and slowly getting the plumbing and sump (low cost -plastic tote and 3 shelf drawer). The other option is can message and join ur local fb aquarium club and message there and can find something not too out of price. I’ll keep an eye out as I peruse most avenues, sites and media, and fish ones too for equipment and stock.
Thanks. I’m in no rush to upgrade, but would like to soon. Just have to complete all my stuff for grad school. But at the latest, the upgrade will be a year from now. Did you keep any pets when you were in grad school?Good luck on the upgrade! I'm psyched for you! I'm sure you'll find something if you're patient.
Have you ever tried any crypts for plants? They can tolerate lower lighting.
You also might try a tiger lotus - I have a red one that has grown really fast and I love how it adds some red color and pops leaves up to the surface.
Oh, and yeah the nitrates look 15-20ish to me, too.
i do like the water lettuce quite a bit. Will look into penny’s wort.Water lettuce and Brazilian penny wort were two plants that took off for me.
Nitrates were at 20 after a wc two days ago ?
Test everyday from now up to your next scheduled wc. Post results. Also post feeding info (day, type, and amount)
How many feeding since the last wc
Thanks! Glad to see you back on the forum. Love your mini planted tanks. They look outstanding. Its been awhile since ive seen your polys, they look really nice and healthy, great goob raising them.
Please keep us posted. Java ferns are sweet, but I do really like algae guru’s mix of plants. What are 2 24/7s? It’s totally okay to give up on the African biome. Your tank looks awesome as is....and you might as we’ll get the fish/plants you want!People tell me to add more plants that will help them fight back the algae but seems like the algae grows faster then the plants. I had a 60g that was pretty heavily planted and it still had some algae issues. When I started c02 it went away. But that opens another can of worms. I don't want to dose anything. A guy at the lfs has plants alot of plants in a tank with some of the eels tiretrack, fire something else and a few others it's a 125. He used pfs, no dosing no ferts except root tabs for his swords 1x month, he has vals, crypts, and a bunch of bucephalandria which is really cool like anubias nana but some flower! He has 0 algae issues. He runs a fx6 that's it. For lights it's 2 24/7s. Feeds frozen mysis, blackworms, and spectrum pellets. His nitrates are always around 10ppm weekly w/c of 50%. He says it's all about your mix of plants. You need fast growing ones to out compete the algae like the val, and slower growing ones because they are the cool looking ones usually. So I don't know. I've been fighting the same fight you have, i haven't lost to many plants other then the time when my barbs ate all of them...... right before they started eating everything was when in the 75 I started winning the fight over the algae. The trident fern was really growing hardcore and I think it was out competing the algae. Some of the saved shreds of that came to the 180 but hasn't done well. A couple weeks ago I got some java ferns a handful of different ones from a lfs for something like 3/$10. I've also given up on keeping this as close to an African biotope as possible and added some swords. The geos are not African anyway. Lol Java ferns grow fast at least they are supposed to and are supposed to be nearly indestructible. My val was wispy and seemed really fragile it didn'y look good so it's gone. Any way after this supper long post I've taken some of 125 guys advice and see if I can out plant the algae.![]()
Very interesting. I’ll look into it. CO2 kinda wigs me out because it can stress the fish out. Although, I’m sure it’s easy to maintain.I havent had algae on the plants and glass since i started using this product, it dont work if your tank have algae already, it just prevent the tank to have more algae.
thank you! They are definitely a fun bunch.awesome little group

Crypts can go through a thing they call crypt melt. Sometimes they can rebound sometimes not. Sounds like what happened. I've got some fighting back from it now.I think I might have purchased crypt Wendii, but it disintegrated along with the anubias nana. Even though crypts are pretty hardy....when they arrived to me they looked rotted and mushy....so I might have threw them away before they got in the tank.
