Im relatively new to FHs in general, still learning alot everyday. I see alot of people post here looking for Ids, showing their new fish, showing breeding stock, etc. Most of the time I'll go into these threads and see what I believe to be an absolutely beautiful specimen and most of the time you'll see someone in there comment and say the fish has a "weak tail". So, I was just wondering what exactly does this term mean? Is there anyway someone could maybe post a pic showing me the difference between a good tail and a bad one? Thanks.

This picture here shows a strong fan tail.(Google images) Meaning its big and looks strong. Now look at my avatar, that fish has a weak tail. Weak tails are just that, they look weak. Most, if not all, ZZ's will have weak tails. Now, thats not to say all Kamfas have strong fan tails, but most kamfas are bred for a strong tail.

Thanks Water, that clears it up for me. But does that mean fish with "weak tails" are considered low quality? When I see people say that to others it seems as if its an insult of sorts. In my opinion it doesnt make the fish, your avatar for example looks great in my opinion.

If you are talking grading, then yes it does. But to be honest, the grading system to me seems very subjective. If you like the fish, then that is all that really matters. My FH are probably not that great when compared to the grading system, but I think they are sweet.

The reason I'm asking this is because I recently purchased a Kml that in my opinion is gorgeous. He has super nice pearls, intense red, and even at about 3" already showing a really nice kok. But according to what I've been told here he does have a weak tail, which im like you pharoah... I love him, I guess thats all that really matters

I concur. Grading lies in the eye of the beholder. As an example I personally don't care for massive koks on a fish. For myself personally there is a fine line between having a nice sized nuchal hump, and one that is too large for the fish & simply looks out of place, and some even grotesque. Many people would judge those same fish as masterpieces.

I think the whole beauty in the eye of the beholder is actually what Pharaoh was saying.

Which is why I said that I concur. ;)
