I just thought of sharing a name that is commonly unknown in the west. In one of its native countries Malaysia, a Giant Snakehead / Channa Micropeltes is commonly known as Toman. But the top freshwater predator has its full name, Toman Harimau.

Harimau means Tiger and this name is given to the Giant Snakehead due to its common stripes that resemble a Tiger. The name Tiger Snakehead suits the Giant Snakehead better than the name 'Redline' Snakehead.

I wouldn't consider them "commonly unknown" in any sense; they have even gotten some attention in pop culture thanks to SyFy.

Ya they are on TV from time to time. I think I saw them on River Monsters. Definitely a very cool fish! I wish I could keep one. Some species are invasive in the Eastern U.S.
