My female motoro eats what has to be damn near her weight in food everyday (ghost shrimp, guppies, driftworms, krill, shark and ray food, and occasionally beefheart) how the hell is she still so skinny, I barely see my male eat and hes fat as all possible get out only thing he does is pick off a few shrimps once in a while. Im pullin my hair out here any thoughts? maybe would it be more effective to lighten the feeding sessions and do them more often or is it better to feed them full once a day?both are approx 6"the female the smaller of the two about 5" id say she seems to be growing since i have had her but today especially she looks way thin! So as is usually the case I find I can usually help others solve problems but when it comes to my own I prefer to scream obscenities and ask the masters. any input welcome, hell Ill take the sarcastic advice too! well when in doubt do a water change right? ill be back soon.

Sounds like internal parasites. How long have you had her? If they are wildcaught it could definatly be that.

I currently have three motoros 2 - 12"females and 1 - 6" male. When the females were about 5" across i fed them 3 times a day and they have grown like weeds. This male i just recently got i only feed twice a day and he is not growing nearly as fast. I have kept the temp around 83 / 84 (parasites don't like really warm water). I'm not saying yours have parasites but it won't hurt to crank up the heat to 84 or 85 for a while anyway, and definately feed frequently at least while they are small. Also do 40-50% water changes twice a week. Good Luck

If internal parasites are suspected, try feeding Wattley's frozen Community Diet with Garlic. This stuff clears out the nasties in all my WC bottom preds and puffers.

thanks a bunch guys Im currently running mid 80's 84-86 range. know if any corporate whores that carry this wattleys oddball? I know we dont. Im so excited I think this is the first post I've started the grand and glorious wizard of Odd has posted in. theres no place like monser

I agree with internal parasites. We use prazi-pro here (made by hikari) with good success.

prazi-pro is what i would use, it works well. I Have never used it on rays though. Garlic wouldnt hurt but there is no real studies that show it works.

What is the best way to administer prazi-pro? Add directly to the water, or soak food with it?

I always thought Garlic helped with parasites too, until reading afew articles and threads 'myth busting' its effect.. I don't even know that Jack Wattley's advice to give garlic as an internal parasite medication is really good advice at all.

If anything, it's a great hunger enticer.. and might have some miniscule preventitive effects on parasites.
