The toughest small catfish?

Hi People, I wouldn't mind adding a catfish to my 48g JD tank. If have tried bn plecos but he hates them (actually hates everything but me lol). Is there some thing more "armoured" etc I could put with him?

Apple Snails?

Bristlenoses will be about as well armored as any pleco. Not going to get hugely different. You could go bigger but you don't really have space.

As stated, a bristlenose pleco is about as armored as it gets. You could try raphael catfish though (Platydoras or Agamyxis), since they'll have the advantage of hiding all the time.

My clown pleco is tiny and tough

Even the most armored plecos still have soft bellies and eyes though.
