I have never owned a tank that size before but it sure sounds like a good size to have in most rooms.
and for only $50 dollars thats hard to beat.
I would never cut down a 55 gal tank just because some fish would need a bigger one.
55 gal is fine for many fish that could really look good inside it.
Also remember, your 55 gal tank does not have to be the biggest or the last tank you ever get!
Nothing says you cant go out and get a 140 gal or bigger next year...so enjoy the 55 gal.
Who knows, perhaps in a few years this 55 gal tank will get turned into a sump for a monster 240 gal tank and you will start to concider this $50 bucks the best money you ever spent!
when i got my first 55 it was friggin huge and i could put so many fish in it... *sigh*... its now a planted tank.. theres not many monsters that can be kept in it.. but it looks nice with its congo tetras, corys and balloon ram..
the 75 that has not even made it in the house yet is already too small
I can't imagine anything else fitting upstairs! I am a college student - so my budget is limited. It'd be hard for me to convince myself to invest even more money on a larger tank. Although, i intend on buying a MUCH larger one eventually.
That makes perfect sense. Normally I would say that a big fish is a good excuse for a bigger tank. It is wise that you are being sensible in keeping the hobby within your current means.
Very, very , very few of us actually own the biggest tank we have always wanted.
Most of us always have that dream in the back of our minds of that next bigger tank.
I tend to agree with CHOMPERS above, and also believe that the reason many people go out and get their really big fish tanks is because they own fish that have grown big enough to be a reason for getting the tank.
For many of us in this sport, you get the justification to spend that much money from the need to get a bigger tank for your current fish.
EXAMPLE: Koi. Many of us got little Koi from a fish store and as the fish have grown we have been getting bigger and bigger tanks until we get to the point where we start to look at the backyard and dream of a pond.
Whereas we would never have even thought of digging in a backyard pond before without getting that little Koi first.
