Ideal tank size is at least 10 gallons, kept in smaller tanks or bowls they get more disease and don't live as long (with PROPER care you should expect 5 to 10 years of life).

Diet: a Bettas stomach is only about the size of its eye,so feed very little, the stomach (located just behind where the bottom of the gill plates end), should not be swollen after eating.

Flakes and betta pellets can be fed, but for best results feed occasional live foods such as live black mosquito larvae or brine shrimp(if you feed only these live foods you can feed just three a day.

Tempeture between 70 to 80 is best.

Tankmates: plain guppies, whiteclouds, small peaceful tetras, cherry barbs, black window tetras, kuhli loach,0to catfish, farlowellas, glass catfish,
Male Bettas do not get along with other male Bettas except in large planted tanks, even then fin nipping may occur.
Bettas are great additions to planted tanks or outdoor containers.

I will lower it some then. Filter has a min fill line, looks about 7in up.

But that will lower the 5gal down to like 3.5 or so.....
