The ugliest fish you will see

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I looked them up and they are native to NY. If I can catch one, can I keep it in a 90? They are big, but they don't move around much. I want to set a up a 90 marine coming to join you on the dark side ;) & can't afford one, but I may be able to keep a native marine in my unused 90. If anyone has anywhere for me to get info on how to do a temperate saltwater tank please post that too- I can't seem to find any proper info.

You'd only need to breed them once. Adult females lay between 100,000 and 350,000 eggs per spawning (the eggs are commercially collected and dyed to make cheap caviar). Males guard the nest until hatching occurs. Fry immediately attach themselves to the substrate (like gobies).

man if people would buy them you could be rich! lol

It reminds me of the simpsons episode where the 3 eyed fish was found in the polluted spill off pond from mr burns power plant. It is quite an interesting fish actually. There's a lot more weird looking pug ugly fish out there. I mean look at some of them deep sea species, some of them fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!!

Have you seen the projects using them to control sea lice in salmon aquaculture? It is an awesome solution to a serious problem. Plus as has been mentioned you can harvest them for lumpfish "caviar" as a secondary product out of the cages.
