Your right. It's a male pink con.

The tank looks good as is but seems like it would be a pain to clean. How long have you had it set up? I hate doing more cleaning than I have to do though which is why I have mostly barebottom tanks.

Your stocking level looks good as is. Depends on your filtration and how much maintenance you're willing to do. Also what your current inhabitants are.

I have 2 big side filters that are in the tank and they do a great job and as for cleaning it, is not to hard I only do a "clean" every 5 to 6 months but I do water changes ever week to keep it in good condition. and I have had this setup for about 2 years more or less.

as for my fish I have 2x Silver Dollars. 1x Bala Shark, 2x Clown Knife Fish, 5x Convict Chiclets, 2x jewel Chiclets and a Pleco and 4x apple shell Snails.

I am open to any suggestions to improve my tank.

How many gallons is that?

I am not sure, but I would agree it is a pink convict cichlid ("chiclets" is a brand of kids gum).

1. Yes, male pink convict
2. How many gallons is that tank?
3. Beautiful set up!

I am concerned seeing as how you have a 'few' fish in there that are going to reach around 3 feet long, that you will be WAY overstocked in a few months. Hence, the question as to the size of the tank. :)

Not saying right away, but for the Clown Knifes at least a 300 gallon, as they can grow to be 3 feet. They can get that big in a matter of 2 years with the proper care. I had one shoot from about 6 inches to just about 2 feet in a little over a year.

The cichlids should be fine in there for a good long while, but the silver dollars also can get pretty large. And your bala shark, though they grow slower than the knifes, can also push 2 feet long (maybe larger, someone will correct me if I'm wrong though:)).

There's actually one person here with a royal clown knife that is 3 feet long, and it's kept in a rather large pond. If I find the link for the you-tube video of it (or if someone can help me out here:D) I'll post it up.
