I'm guessing you're not going to have the brightest, strongest lighting in there, so the grass shouldn't be growing very quickly. Plus, it would probably make the caiman feel safer to have a little bit of overgrown grass to walk through and hide in. It shouldn't get too tall depending on what type of grass you got. Plus it would look pretty natural.

Another option would be to just make a couple of small grassy area's separated by mulch paths. That would reduce the amount of potential grass trimming, and still leave plenty of open mulched space.

or just small grassy areas around the ponds, so as to not get as much of whatever other sediment you use in the water

one problem with that idea. how the hell am i supposed to trim grass in a caiman enclosure? :nilly: thats asking to get bit. not that i care when its little(will still hurt like a b****) but when she is 4 ft! eek!
who said you had to trim the grass? im pretty sure the grass in the wild isn't trimmed...

or crab grass that doesn't get tall and literally grows like a weed.

yeah but i got a sweet ground cover that will be in there.

I might do some grass. i was already planning some fountain grasses. i dunno. ill have to look into it. again, what about when i trim it? how? it will eventually have to be trimmed. other wise it will get tooo tall. i want to be able to see my caiman at least alittle.

What? The guy'll ride a souped up minibike down a gravel road at 40mph, but he won't go into a cage with a little mini-croc to snip some grass? Please...

lol. ill have to think about it. it does seem like it will be a good idea, but ill have to see.

oh and on the mini bike front, im looking at building one from the ground up, with a heavily souped up engine hoping to be at least 50 mph next time :D only need to get around 10 to 12 hp. with the right gearing i should fly past 50 with that much hp
