bellevue, ne
i need to upgrade into a bigger aquarium and financially ponds are the way to go.

for those of you who when from tanks to ponds.

do you miss being able to see into the aquarium from the side or is the top view clear enough to be rewarding.

would love some top down pics and any comments.

or even better compromises between the cost and viewing.

thanks in advance

You might want to have this moved to the pond section to get more responses.

had a 6x4ft tropical pond many years ago with tilipia and various cichlids but it always freaked me that i couldnt see the condition of the fish properly.Always thought an upside down periscope might have been useful for checking the fish.

i was worried about this when i first did a pond but now i prefer it. If the waters clear you still get a good side view when they come up to feed. Some fish look better from above ie catfish. I love my convict pond cause then fish behave more naturally...they are much less aggressive when theyb have width as well. as length...imo. I still like my tanks for some fish like.my tetras but if i had to choose i'd choose a pond. or even better a pond with a window!!!! I'll post a pic of my cons if i get time tonight!

There was aguy on here that was making his own tank/pond from some large storage tanks but I never heard what happened...probably blew himself up cutting them open. :D

But it is an option. (not the blowing yourself up part :nilly:).

Yep, I've posted how-to's in several threads on the subject, check them out.

And please don't double post.

Blow myself up....no....it was better than that. Started digging in the garden and found the landlord had buried a load of asbestos that he had smashed up and illegally moved from another renovation....nice. So that was the end of that, and now we get to play a fun new game called 'who pays for its safe disposal?'

on the bright side the guy who said i'd get a decent amount as scrap and i laughed at was right! Never enjoyed being wrong so much and now have a lump to start a new pond with!

On the topic of windowa with liners I missed your threads Dr J... I'll search. A while ago i posted that i had heard the koi guys were selling windows prefabbed with brackets that bclip into the liner. I just got off the phone to our koi dealer and he gets the made by a local fab shop to order. Charging £70 for a 2' by 2' window with frame.... I think I'll get one! Try having a wqord with yhe koi guys your side....koi guys ROCK!!!
