I can believe Shane killed the old guys "Zombie Barn"? Why would the old guy hide sophia in the barn? WTF? Is that why the old guy told them to move out as soon as possible?

Good questions..it could be that Herschell rescued the girl at some point after she was bitten and placed her in the barn with his other family members.
The 'rumor' is Otis captured Sophia before he shot Carl. This means she was bite early. I don't think Herschel looked in the barn since then.
Herschel wanted them gone because he knew they were trigger happy.
