Anyone shocked that Daryl was a victim of child abuse? Nice touch with him grabbing the book
Don't you remember when Merle and Daryl hooked up and were walking in the forest they compared who was abused more? Daryl complained that when Merle ran away the father took it out on him and showed the marks on his back.

Yeah, did you know carol was a victim of spousal abuse?

Ill beat you to my point. NONE OF THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT REVEALED ANYTHING THAT WE DONT ALREADY KNOW!

Buncha pointless references. We knew they both were abused! Nothing new was revealed about their past at all

I was about to say, yea. Ed verbally abused her at the start and she mentioned he beat her. Well, we did learn that she went to that Shelter. But overall, yes it just a recap of what we already knew.

I agree it's human nature to be terrible entities of destruction, but these survivors have a common enemy, humanity as we know it is practically extinct.

I guess circumstances do change people for the worse, but I feel like most humans would congregate towards each other. Like a caveman mentality - us versus nature. Humans are social creatures. And believe me I have less faith in humanity than you can even begin to fathom.

You ever see a scifi movie where aliens invade and ruin everything? Humans are like "awww hell naw not on my planet"

I do like the gritty realism of the walking dead. Human conflict is a very real possibility, but the writers focus on it too much. It's a big world where zombies outnumber the living 1000000-1 and they just happen to run into EVERYONE, and not only do they run into every last person on earth, but every one but them sucksssssss

So what would you do 5 season in on a show thats still behind the graphic novel (meaning it still has a few years left)? Youd just have em hole up and "survive"? The season 1 and 2 crap we've already lived through?

I think theyre showing a decent job of showing how each group started with good intentions but either through manipulation or being taken advantage of theyve turned to darker ways of survival through mistrust of other human. Most humans who have made it this far are at the mindstate shane was in from the get go. He was really ahead of the curve.

I think youre dependent on human conflict 5 years in to even have a show. We've seen plenty of new people taken in along the way too

I disagree, I think if it was only focused on the zombies it would have been a very short show. Example:

Writer 1: What are we going to write about this week?
Writer 2: Lets have the people hide from the zombies in a house.
Writer 1: We did that last week.
Writer 2: Let's have the people hide from the zombies in a car.
Writer 1: That was 2 episodes ago.
Writer 2: Let's have a member of the group get bit.
Writer 1: That was last week.

But if you include the human element...it opens the book wide open. There is so much to explore. I agree that the writers should not lose focus on the main point of the story which is the zombies in a zombie show.

Personally, I think TWD is pretty well balanced between the two. I think there should be a slight increase in the fear of the zombies though. It seems they have gotten a little numb to them and act like it's no big deal.

Ive read the comics pretty far into the storyline all the way up into DC and negan and stuff.

The show just feels drawn out. And the comics didnt seem that way to me. I agree there needs to be a human element but I feel like they almost ignore the zombies sometimes and when they include them they are often a minor threat.

They dont need to be hiding in cars but they can encounter more herds, more zombies.

There's no focus on longterm survival. They have no goal or endgame. Its been over 2 years and they've barely moved anywhere. They are still in Georgia. A short drive from Atlanta in season 1.

There are subplots like
Let's go to the cdc
Find sophia
Secure the prison
Kill the gov'na
Go to terminus
Kill everyone in terminus
Go to DC

There's no common thread. I guess it would make for a boring show if they just packed up and hid in the mountains.

I think my problem is I read the comics and compare everything. I still love the show though, just feels so drawn out.
