I had to look this up, but Olds was only independant from 1897-1907. GM purchased Olds in 1908. It's hard to say if this car would have outsold the Vette, (I think it would have) but for the most part GM doesn't like a lesser model outperforming the Corvette. The only time I can recall GM releasing a car that was faster than the Vette was the 87 Grand National or the Firebird model which I think was the GTA.

The Grand National,now that was a dream car of mine back in the day...GNX.I did not know that it was faster than the Vette though.What did GTA on the Trans AM mean?
How much did that go for.
Gran Turismo Americano, Now that I think about it, that may not be the one I'm thinking of. I think the GTA was the V8 model. The Firebird I'm thinking of had the same turbo 6 as the GN. Any Pontiac heads care to chime in? I remember riding in one years ago, it was tweaked a lot, Im pretty sure it was a mid 9 sec car then if not faster, (I know it went into the 8s later) but that was a RIDE! I remember we left tracks the WHOLE 1/4 mile!!
Nice car, it would look great in a crisp white with ghost blue pearl but I like the royal gold satin candy paint job too. BJ has some nice cars, I wish they would show more low end cars on the tv show though, I like seeing what you can buy for under 10k.
