hello, in the last week i had many fish die from ick, including today, which is when my 2 earth eaters died. Now, I have another problem on my hands: my tiger oscar has so much ick he has become inactive unless its feeding time, I dont know what to do about all of this ick, please help

Lots of medicine you can buy, but easier, healthier, and safer is to salt and/or heat up the tank. There are a lot of guides to doing this. I recently had a bout of ich on my tiger barbs and all I did was crank my heater to 88*F and it was gone in a few days. Salting can take over a week because you have to wait for all the ich to drop off the fish. Heat seems to kill it even when attached.

Like I said, lots of detailed guides if you google it. Use meds as a last resort, but you might already be at that point.

Your water is most likely responsible for all that. Keep up on those water changes, do at least 25% water changes every week or two weeks...50% water changes would be much better IMO.

Bumping the temp, adding a product like Kordon Rid Ich+, and doing those water changes should bring them back to good health.

when i was a new fishkeeper i didnt know about heat and salt treatments i always used medicine and my fish would always die.

now when my guys get ick i would do 1 tbs of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water and crank up the heat like the above members say to 85-88. from what i've read online the freshwater ick cannot tolerate the salty water, and as above stated the salt only works when the ich comes off the fish, apparently thats their most vulnerable point in the life cycle. the heat works by speeding up their metabolism and so they move thru their life cycle faster (so they come off the fish sooner rather than later) i've always used the heat salt combo therapy and it seems to work. it's cheap and easy... of course don't take my word for it i'm just a n00b here. also like clownknife mentioned make sure you're doing your water changes... from what i gather that's to reduce teh amount of circulating ick in the water. good luck

Ich will sometime get worst before it gets better some fish are stronger than others. the heat and salt are the best. ur not the worst fish keeper ever. im a long time hobbyist and 6 years on this site and im batteling ich right now also. i caught it quickly and did heat and salt immediatly and havent lost anyone. im sure weve all lost a few in our time to ich. this hobby is a learning process.

I hate ich. I have only battled it once but it almost wiped my 90g out. Like everyone says salt a raise temp. I had a problem getting heaters to be consistent enough for me.

The nest advice I can give is to do those 2 thing and nothing else. The more you do the more you may stress fish. Just try to let nature do its thing.

You could also try that blue stuff. I have seen that work in pet stores a lot.

You have to raise that temp to the 88-90 degree range.
