those pacu lived the best way possible. Every year millions go to their doom in 55g tanks. You saved their lives, and they returned the favor by saving your house. And you have fry now. It is beautiful. Your giants are gone, but never forgotten. Youre a great fishkeeper, and just remember you have all our support.

:( :( Thank you for helping me see that.. and thank you so much for your support..it means so much to have all of you..i hope i am always there for all of you if you should ever need it.

Hey Liz, another side note. With your husband working so hard to save the fish I'm sure he was breathing a fair amount of smoke. A trip to the Doc may be wise, just to check for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Also the fire could also have started from moisture on the cord end. I have seen my fair share of extension cords the burn up because of moisture. What happens is moisture between the prongs creates a path for electricity to arc. The arcing will heat the rubber causing it to burn.

Thank you so much for all your help and support and now for this info, i will try and talk him into the doctor visit..he is incredible ..without his ambition to save them the loss would have been tragic, after that none of the tanks were working, i yelled at him that the fish were lost..i thought the smoke alone would end their life ..but he said i have to try and as pleased as i am that because of him the fish are okay i also think i could have lost him along with the fish, no one should be working for hours to save fish in thick smoke, but that is the kind of person he is when he cares about something..you cannot stop him..

i am going to bed shortly ..i am very weary..thank you all from the heart.

i like what prophet said about you taking such good care of your pacu and them taking care of you in return.

my heart goes out to you Liz, i'm so sorry.. i know i would be heartbroken if something like that happened to any of my fish.. especially Dozer and Pinky...

I would bever want to see any of you go through this or any of your sweet fish and other pets.. i just hope mine did not suffer to bad.. we could not put them down when there was always that slim chance they would recover..
i have one question if anyone knows ..does the smell of smoke eventually leave or do i have a way of treating it.. when you open the door to stairs to basement there is a horrific burn smell that also lingers lightly upstairs..just wondering if there is some remedy to help absorb the smell ..something harmless to pets..or is it just time?
