The wrong way!?

Your tank should be getting drained to 50% once a week every week any way. That is part of proper maintenance. Changing 80% of the water one week so you can do the move is really not a big deal and will be good for the fish.

they will cut it for you right there, just tell them what size you need. make sure you get 1/4" the thinner stuff will sag.

sry i think 50 % wc a week is extremely not necessary i do 25% and have crystal clear water and everything is fine, but planning on draining 50 - 70% of water to do the move, what are the odds of the seams cracking like these guys are talking about, again im only moving it about 3 inches?

Just drain it to where you can manage to move it. Don't jerk it too much and you'll be ok on the glass. I wouldn't sweat it....I'd stick with the HOB's as apposed to the last post, and 25% wc's are fine, that's all I do unless nitrates are high.

War lord, what are your nitrates? Fresh water fish love fresh water. There is nothing extreme about a weekly 50% change. Its what the pros recommend and do.

Dude just remove the wall so you have room to put the filters on the back.

Haha, this thread..... Not at the OP, but at some of the posts. Op.... I don't know what type of HOB filters you have, but youll have more surface agitation on the back of the tank than you will from haning them on the sides. The biggest part about moving fish tanks and breaking/cracking glass and seams is when the tank is on a twist. Just make sure you try to apply even pressure when moving it and you should be ok. As far as water changes, there is no cookie cutter guide to the amount of water needing to be changed a week. That all depends on your stock list and filtration. If your water parameters are good at 25% a week and your water is clear and your happy and the fish are happy, then dont fix what's not broke. If your media in your filters have been established, you should have no prob draining a large percentage of water to move the tank. Just try to do everything you can to prevent the fish from being stressed. Just take normal precautions like you do during any water change! I sort of did the same thing when I set up my 150. I planned to have 2 canisters and a hob, well, I set the tank too close to the wall and filled it up before I had the HOB on there! Luckily my canisters are still plenty for filtration.

Also, don't feel dumb. If youre making mistakes, youre trying. Once you realize your mistake and you ask for help, it means youre taking the right approach to keeping fish! Good luck and do update
