There is HOPE...FEMALE Beani FOUND

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are very hard to breed due to their aggression and are almost gone from the hobby. Just a few hobbyists own some.

sorry for the ignorant question but ...could someone explain why this is such huge news? from my google'ing, it doesn't seem like they are endangered in the wild; are they very difficult to breed?

Why is that funny? It's a good question that people who don't know much about CA cichlids would have to ask.

And the answer is that they're very rare in the hobby, not the wild, due to them being very hard to breed and then raise fry. Adults are very aggressive and tend to kill each other and the fry tend to bloat.

Yeah, I also second that, it's not very funny. People are trying to learn new things everyday, they want to know the true facts from the experienced hobbyists. Not everyone knows everything to stuff, that's why you learn.

This is why i love the modest man. Straight forward, nice comments and he is realistic too.

I might have missed it, but has a male beani been found within good shipping distance?

This is from KRSwop1.

Wow, congrats Gani! I think it'd be awesome if you and Gary got something set-up for them to breed. I don't know if it'd be a good Idea to use mine in the project because mine is a Rio Tepic and I don't think either of your beani's are. And your female looks to be a bit larger than my male. I'd hate to see anything happen to my fish as it is now my pride and joy (fish wise). I couldn't see shipping him out for a breeding project and I don't have the heart to sell him. I hope you guys understand. Thanks for asking and I wish you the best of luck. :headbang2

Gary (polomax24) and I are going to meet. Hopefully we would be able to vent his Beani.
