Although he (05-06 petsmart midas) has been in a 60gallon by himself for the last year and a few months, I put a female rose queen in with him today. At first it looked like there was no hope.. But they've been together for about 4 hours. He chased her for a little while but gave up pretty quickly. I figured 60gallons would be too small but I think it will work since the females so small. I have bigger tanks if I need but it looks like this is going to work out for now.

anyways..

I just wish I could capture their colors better. His colors look good in the photos but she is a much darker KKP/mammon looking purplish colored red. I prefer the flowerless flowerhorns the best and these are 2 of my all time favorite fish. What kind of fry do you think these will produce? I'm hoping to end up with the rose queens eyes and color, and the males pattern and hump. What would you guys breed him with?

the four hours might have been the midas catching his breath :D jk but congrats. best of luck to you and my hopes are with you that they get along

i'll take a few fry from ya ;) that 2nd picture is socking at first glance, then hilarious.. GL

thanks guys. I've never seen anybody else with a pair of fish like these but everybody loves my male so I've wanted to breed him forever. I've just never had any good females to breed him with. This female will fill a clay pot with eggs too. I've got at least 2 weeks until shes ready to lay again though. My male is one of a kind. The only other fish I've seen that look anything like him are midas, jing kangs, and rose queens but I like him better than all of the above. I'm just crossing my fingers he's fertile. It should be cool to see what my fry turn out like. If they are decent I plan on line breeding them and creating my own strain of flowerhorn.

When you get too many fry, send some this way. :-)

As long as all goes well I plan to sell a lot of these on here and continue on the chupacabra's legacy (that's his name LOL.) If you hadn't noticed I update my threads all the time so just check back every now and then to see what's going on with them.

Nice fish. For petsmart pickup you hit the lotto. lol
