There will be a python ban in the US

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How will this not be voted on? Where is the information other than this post which after doing a quick google search has been reposted several times. Without actual facts it is hard to believe. Anyone have any official facts or resources? Right now I don't really trust it until there is something backing it up.

...are there any facts or other information available online about this? These things seem to fly around all the time.

And while many may not agree, maybe not this specifically, but the notion is in the right direction. I'm sick of iguanas, ball pythons, bearded dragons, sav monitors, anoles...whatever being exploited from the pet trade. I would rather see them banned, require permits, or whatever. It will never happen since its a industry and based on business not ethics, oh well. /rant

Working at a chain store for a while made me sick, the things i saw and people i had to deal with who just don't care.

The bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to include constrictor snakes of the species Python genera as an injurious animal will b e voted on. First by the Senate. Then by the House. Next it will be considered by the President. If it has passed, he will sign it into law. Just like the old cartoon of the Bill sitting on the Capitol steps.

I think what you are implying is that the Bill will go before a popular vote. This will not happen. Get out a basic U.S. Government textbook if you don't believe me. I hate to argue about this, but you are the one without any "actual facts".

Whether or not this ban is needed is debatable. In some states, notably Florida, feral constrictors are becoming extremely harmful to the ecosystem. The local wildlife up in Maine doesn't have much to worry about. It does seem unreasonable to ban them nationwide.

Another question is whether listing them as an "injurious animal" amounts to an all-out ban.

Does anyone know when the bill is due to be voted on by the Senate?

i see these threads all the time on snakebytes and according to brian and all the guys and gals over there most are a complete rumor and even if theyre not the pet industry is so large, especially the herp area, that it wouldnt be passed without a ton of opposition. see i think that in southern states you should need a permit to own a tropical snake as they can thrive there if released and destroy the ecosystem but then again i think any animal should be avalible as long as the owner meets a set of credentials

the idiots in south florida dont get these pythons dont get there from people but from hurricans ever hear of the saying its raining cats and dogs if their is a tornado and it picks up some of these and pulls them into a hurrican and drops them in the ocean near the florida coastline they will thrive by going ashore into the everglades and mangroves also how do we know how long they were there they could have been there 800 years ago for alll we know and besides wats the big deal they already have alligators, stingrays, snapping turtles and the skunk ape so wats the big deal?

I don't care about actual facts about our democratic system. I want actual facts about this bill. For all I know this is as believable as most email forwards.

Sorry about the government lesson, but you asked "How will this not be voted on?" I answered your question. :D

Here you can see how the bill is actually worded.

lol not sure about the Skunk ape. Alligators-snapping turtles and imagine you mean marine stingrays are all native.

The pythons are released or escaped pets . Cant fathom a hurricane depositing any from over seas in S.Florida lol.
Some people in S.Florida which is way warmer than N.Florida keep reptiles outside all yr long in screened patios, enclosures.

I do agree they might now have been established in Glades for decades .

Keep in mind all if not most of the Canals in S.Florida can take a python to the Glades .
They swim an obstacle course of gators in all sizes but enough have made it to establish themselves..

I just cant fathom even the biggest python being immune from the big male gators which are huge.
