I have five tanks and have a thermometer in each tank. When I put all thermometers in same tank, they all read different Temps? Some are not even close, not one is the same?

So, I am asking for some help from your experience-what is the best/most accurate thermometer out there? I have used digital and the new PinPoint, they still are not accurate?

Can someone reccomend one that I can use that is + or- .5F accurate?

I use the old glass floating ones. I've had 5 at once and put them in the same tank and the lowest was 76 and the highest just shy of 80.

For me though, as long as the temps aren't over 82 and below 72 IDC, so it works for me. But I can see how it could be a problem.

A Glass thermometer will not ever "be wrong" The material inside of them expands and contracts based on termperature and the rate at which they do so will never change...

The paper chart can shift though... so take note of where it's supposed to be and if it shifts a little take that into acconut...

I've used quite a few different brands of digital aquarium thermometers. Every single one I've used has failed miserably. Some work well for a while (6 months amx) but in time earn a place at the bottom of a box in the closet.

There are some higher dollar models on the market that I haven't tried. But I just don't see the logic in paying such price tags when a $1 glass thermometer does just fine.

To keep the glass thermometer out of the tank I often stick them ini the back of my HOBs...

cant fail with good old fashioned glass ones, cheap and cheerful. ive used digital and ive always been distinctly unimpressed. they have either failed miserably or been so far from the true temp in the tank.
all my glass ones have matched each other and they have all matched the heater.

the placement of the heater might have somthing to do with it.
i have a digital one and i move it from side to side and it gets warmer and cooler from side to side

I use a Raytech MT6 Minitemp infrared temp gun. My heater, an lcd thermometer, and the temp gun all read exactly the same, but the gun is the most versatile and easy to read, plus it reads the temp instantly.

Coralife digital here. Works great. Reads to the tenth of a degree. Heaters are in my sump, thermometer is in the tank. I still keep a few glass ones around though.
