I don't know if the pic in the link has been changed since this post started but that ray is most certainly not an apple ray. I would say it looks like a particularly poorly colored specimen of one of the small peru rays - maybe humerosa or yepezi.

Raya 'Common' out of Peru usually represents a number of species, including Orbignyi, Humerosa, Yepezi, and some common Motoro 'Peru' morphs..
