I have nothing to back me up on this, but I think straws would be fairly stable because they're for drinking and all that. Good idea, I love DIY stuff if no ones noticed.... there could almost be a sticky or a forum about homemade tank supplies.

"I have nothing to back me up on this, but I think straws would be fairly stable because they're for drinking and all that." elbeatch...

yes, lol, i know straws are used to drink from... however, these days alot of plastic is biodegradable... and designed to breakdown over time probably especially in water and from sunlight...( uv rays from fluro? )

yeh, im not sure... it might be ok... but id rather be safe than sorry... but bare in mind, my endi's cost me $350 a pop... lol... i cant afford to mess around with them....:naughty: hehe...

your starting to scare me... i'll do a lil research on the contents of this stuff again.
btw, i never heard of biodegradable plastic before. i guess we learn something everyday. that kind could be expensive though. these plastic straws cost about 36 cents per roll(around 30 to 50 feet long, not sure)

ohh..hmmm, dont know about over there, but over here in oz theres alot of plastic stuff thats bio-d., most grocery bags and plastic 6 pack can things that join a 6pack together ( dont know the actual name ) are biodegradable for example... Mainly bscoz of the damage they do to our waterways and wildlife...

hehe, sorry to make u panic :nilly: .... but its worth checking out ")

cheers,
e.

I asked around about the material. No actual scientific facts but some said that these plants in my bichir tank are made of almost the same king of plastic used for making common non-bio things. Not that I'm gonna do it, but i think they can even be used as filter media....?
I've also found a link about bio-d plastics in case the people following this thread wants em: http://www.mindfully.org/Plastic/Biodegradable-Plastic.htm
