glad to hear it although I still think I am going to move the silver dollars as they are really skiddish and freak the other fish out... they eat like no other and after a week the other fish havnt even thought about doing so

You might try spending more time in front of the aquarium during non-feeding times to get around this. Fish are usually fairly smart and will start to recognize you if given the chance.

I have been trying to do that more. I will try the slow feeding although I doubt by silver dollars will ever stop eating

I am rather shocked, and would think it far more of a reaction to the green "terror" then to the silver dollars! The silver dollars should be about as threatening to the Jag and Pike (Cichlid I assume) as a banana is to a chimp!

If removing anything I would think the GT and pleco should be your first choice.

In another thread I have what can only be described as the most timid Jag her on MFK! With that said, >long story short< after being beaten mercilessly by every tankmate I had it with, I had to treat it in my hospital/ QT tank!

I could not resist the $1 silver dollar sale at Petsmart, but knew I still had to quaranteen them before intrduction to a community tank. The SD's were around an inch to 1.5 inches smaller then the jag. I ploped them in the tank, and the first S.D. was dead before I could even blink. Before I could even get the net back into the tank to "save" the second SD, my "timid" jag had grabbed it and was repetitvely slamming it against the glass on the side of the tank! I was honest and DID NOT recieve replacement S.D's from Petsmart for my stupidity.

I think that your Jag and Pike have just agreed to allow the S.D.'s to gutload before the slaughter!

I know alot of folk do not like to feed live, but if you quaranteen correctly and are not morally opposed to the practice, you will easily be able to get you Jag and Pike eating like mad!

The drawback is it is sometime difficult to get fish to take non-live once they get the taste for the kill.

If I had to guess, I would say that the dude lied to you and they were eating live all along. It could take some time to convert off live. Only one way to find out!

First of all, the green terror is the size of one fin of the jag so he isn't messing with the bigger fish... In fact, he seems very chill around the bigger fish even though he came from a tank where he was the bullier. As far as the SD's go, they make me nervous and turbo jet out of the water every once in a while which scares the jag and pike. The pleco doesn't do anything. So the answer is... the sd's are freaking the fish out. They gotta go.

I had a similar problem when I first got my WC - 6 inch festae (red terror). She would not eat anything, and this went on for almost 3 weeks.

My trick was to start with "live food", EARTHWORMS from the bait section in Wal Mart (or any sporting goods store). Start feeding them earthworms (only about 1 a day, still want them to be hungry). I then transitioned her to Flukers Freeze Dried Crickets (this was to get her used to non-living food). Place a few fd-crickets in the water, if they don't eat after 5 min take out. Do this until they eat the crickets. Once they'll eat the crickets, then transition to whatever food you originally wanted to feed them (in my case pellets).

Hope that helps and good luck ! :nilly:

The jag eats totally fine, the silver dollars are gone, but thew pike has only eaten twice. Both times I had to feed him raw shrimp in order for him to eat. Even after a 1-2 weeks of starving him he will only eat raw shrimp. What can I do?

Ask the previous owner for the exact same feed/brand and try that on the pike maybe.
