I dont follow. You find my preferred music oppressive by its nature?
I'll tell you what i find oppressive: expectations, judgement, narrowmindedness, preachiness...hallmarks of an older demographic that for some reason thinks they got everything figured out.
I dont intend to be rude or offensive, merely debating a point. But dont you find yourself somewhat responsible for the lack of the clean energy, flying cars, space travel, or medical advancements? After all, its been your generation running the show these last several decades. Did you expect these things to happen on their own? Why turn the blame to the younger generation's choice in music, hairstyles, or sexual deviance as the scapegoat for the perceived stagnation?
I like all sorts of music and still love metal and punk, it is the style of music that has the most negative preconceptions about it. My wife was very disturbed when my 4 year old daughter suddenly wanted to listen to master of puppets constantly. I was amused but the wife said she didnt want a little girl listening to songs "about death".
I finally got her to listen to the lyrics and explained it was actually an anti drug song and its not a bad thing for a kid to get an anti drug message even though shes far too young to understand it (she just seemed to like yelling obey your master at her dolls). I then got my wife to listen to a few other songs that sound harsh but have a somewhat positive message if you actually listen to what they are saying. I said you dont have to like it but dont be so closed minded and stereotypical about things you dont understand and she sort of agreed, I then ruined the whole thing by playing the metallica cover of the misfits song "last caress"
Lately ive been getting the daughter into the beatles and blondie, 2 current favourites are norewgian wood which really has an appaling message behind it and blondies "dreaming" which always makes me happier when I blast it when driving around.
