Think he was a mistake

There is absolutely no reason to add "tonic" salt to a FW tank! Many fish (like plecos, tetras & other softwater fish), will actually be bothered by it long-term.

You're going to have to set up a separate tank for your BW fish. I'm not sure what species your silver sharks are. it is possible they might be Columbian sharks (Hexanematichthys seemanni). If they are, then they are also BW fish & can follow the GSP into SW. They also grow to 18".

You can cycle the new tank quickly or try a fishless cycle within a week-10days;

Here is info on your puffer:

He won't be acting nice to your other fish for long...

Mule231,
I am just using API Aquarium salt. Just to help with the stress coats.

Adding salt for "stresscoat" is an old wive's tail & the loach in your avatar will not appreciate the salt on it's scaleless skin. Did you read that link I gave? Written by a fiskeeper of >60 years.

Not until after this post i didn't. Good link though. Learned something new again..... I suppose now it's time to slowly discontinue salt use, except for treatments...

Thanks

Thanks for all the information people, my sharks are bala sharks I believe.

I have spoken to an independent fish store and they have confirmed what has been said here. He is an old dude that has been selling/keeping fish for years and he is going to take my poor puffer 'Bubble' off my hands and hopefully give him a good life :(

I don't think he is too well at the moment, but saying that he looks much better then when I got him. He is lovely and green on the top, but down his sides he is staying quite grey and seems to be breathing quite heavily.

He is defiantly in a better condition then when I got him, but the fish keeper that is taking him showed me his GSP's and it just confirms Bubble could be in much better condition.

I feel sad that the LFS i got him from does not care about the fish they stock and wonder how many poor puffers have died due to the wrong care from misinformation.

^ In short... way too many... all around the world it seems a lot of LFS' sell GSP's as F/W fish... i know in HK thats true

cool, hopefully you will get another puffer sometime, they are great pets.

as I have said before, sadly the industry is largely based/perpetuated on ignorance and misinformation of the masses, that's what keeps sales going ...

What a responsible fishkeeper you are!

Thanks again for all your replies here guys. Bubble is now in his new home and being cared for.

I have been given some great advise from the dude that has taken him and he is going to take my other fish and help me set up a puffer tank.
