think the lfs ripped me again

I just bought a baby bristlenose pl*co today he has all the right markings and color but no bristles showing checked my books and the net all the ones i seen have bristles is this the case or do some take a while to come out ? help needed here because i'm fed up with this fish store

Mine is about 2.5" and is showing bristles on his nose....cost me about $6

heres a pic not a good one in fact looked thru 2 fish atlas and a cat book can't identfy it cost me 12.00 cdn only one in the tank labeled b nose

Looks like a trinidad pleco (common pleco) to me.

well, I don't know what it is, but I don't think that it is a bushy nose anything.

My best guess, is that its a mutt of some type? I really dont know, or a tooth nose, but those usually have a black body and yellow spots. But I really have no idea. But long story short, you didn't get what you were after, but on the flip side you might have gotten out of the store with a more expensive fish then you paid for.

well i dont know much about ID for plecos but one thing i do think is the male brisle nose has the bushy nose the female doesnt

i may be wrong though

i think your right its a ancistrus dolichopterus (bristlenose)but a female its one of the oldest varietys of bristle nose from what i can find----- there is far to many ancistrus sp out there


calling oddball or guppy help us out here ?

ya female bristlenose have small to no bristle's on there nose at all

Judging from the pics on planetcatfish, it really does look like a Female Bristlenose
