LOL your right only prob now is i have two more that are female also look the same one but with the white tips on the tail ever time i go to p/u a male

YEAH MATE ITS A FEMALE BRISTLE NOSE ALRIGHT I'VE GOT SIXTY YOUNG IN A TANK WITH 2 PAIRS AND THEY JUST KEEP PRODUCING..... THE MALES DO ALL THE BROODING AND THE FEMALES JUST LAY THE EGGS ..... FEED THEM PLENTY OF GREENS AND YOU'LL HAVE HEAPS OF YOUNGINS IN NO TIME.... GO BACK TO THE LFS AND GET A COUPLE MORE.... IF YOU WHERE IN AUSTRALIA I'D GIVE YOU SIX AND YOU'D BE LAUGHIN"

lol one mans garbage is another mans treasure you mates in australia have all the good fish life not fair :) used to find tons of males here but everyone wants the funny looking fish that cleans the algae me i just love plecos !

first one is male Bristlenose second female.

Male have the characteristic bristles on his snout and round his mouth. The female (depending on type) may have one or two just around the top edge of her snout or none at all.

I don't know squat about plecos but have read that the females don't have bristles, they were almost once classed as a different species.

they should be went through 3 volumes of aquarium atlas no luck and a cat book finally found the one on planet catfish i'll tell ya i should have stuck with neons lol

It is a bristle nose, but if it is small and a female then it is most likley it is still a bristle nose.
Females dont get may bristols and youngseters dont have any so you could have a female bristole nose.

My male bristle did not have any showing when I bought him. It took a few months for them to show. My female is full grown and hardly has a trace of a bristle. So you are correct in saying males=bristles females= no bristles
