that's how i set up mine. same as what you just illustrated. i used a mag drive 18. if you're going for 24 or 36 mag drive i would suggest make the return 1 1/4". it will have greater return, less heat on the pump, less power consumption. i have a 3/4 in/out on the mag 18 but i made some pvc reducer and made it up at 1" right after the pump. it helps a lot. good luck!
