Visited La Laguna San Carlos today, the nearest lake to where I'm staying, and 800 meters above sea level.

water clarity was close to pea soup, so snorkeling was a bit of a bust.

Lots of fry around the edge in 2 or 3 inches of water.

Older juvies skirted the planted zone.

and to my disappointment, large flocks of Mozambique tilapines.

The lake is totally rain fed, and has been stocked for sport fishing, there may be other species in deeper waters I couldn't see.

A storm blew into our mountain chalet yesterday, so we headed to the Pacific where it was hot and sunny.

found a restaurant in a little fishing village, where fishermen were cleaning their catch just off shore.

within about a half hour heads started washing up on shore.

It was a field day for the scavengers.

Nice pix thanks for sharing them. And very cool vacation too.

Nice photos, are those vultures that are eating the fish heads?

The black vulture, Coragyps atratus, seems to be very common here, they are everywhere from the seaside, to high in the mountains. First one I saw landed only a few yards from our cabin on top the mountain.
For those curious, the mountain cottage owned by a Canadian couple where we are staying. can be rented for $1000 per month, or $500 per week.
Gas is less than $3 per gal, we are renting a car and driving has been fine (outside of Panama City).
There are interesting contrasts that run from rural to very cosmopolitan, and the water is very drinkable, as is the beer.

Don't fall asleep for too long laying on that beach.

And lest you think it is all nature, we found a great little beach bar called Woody's Canadian Bar just outside of Santa Clara, and down the road from the vultures, where Panamanian beers can be had for $2 a bottle eh.

Interesting about the vultures,I've never thought of them as beach birds and renting that chalet sounds like fun.
