just came to me! a sock and rubberband! put a sock at the end of the hose and debris will get trapped in there! and DANG the sock is dirty after the first time!

What you are describing is only acting as mechanical filtration, it will not remove nitrate from the water.

So you are syphoning your tank into a bucket, but on the end of the hose going into the bucket you are using a sock? Was the sock washed in laundry detergent recently?

If so it may not be great for filtering water

ya but hasnt been used in over 2 weeks ( have alot of socks ) and it was riped so im useing that sock for now.
