Not much an issue with large aros and cichlids. When young(under 12") cichlids can easily overwhelm and overpower the arowana. I would recommend the arowana be at least 2x the length of the cichlids once it reaches 12".

I'm really first and foremost a sa/ca cichlid guy. So at most with the primitives, I'll do an aro. But tue tanks got to showcase some awesome cichlids.

when i move out and build my 96x48x28 = ~ 550g

I would do some of the not seen as much veija cichlids zonatus and argentae comes to mind. Along with a school of redhook silver dollars and a flagtail would look. cool. The flagtail could grow to its full potential in the 500.
I think a massive comminity would be sweet with pairs. do jag pair, lyonsi pair or trio, istlanum pair, and the arowana.
I think pairs are better in communities cause theyll be more intersted in mating than with single males who just wanna see whos boss if given many spawning sites I think it can be done if you raise all these fish together.
