Thinking about a large pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you are going to have a top pred like a bass, muskie, or pike..you will find you have no bluegill after a couple of months.

Wels catfish if possible to get one or a few

I would just do koi or a single muskie/pike. I honestly don't think you would be able to appreciate bass or sunfish as much as you would in an aquarium setting, since you can only view from top.

Just my 0.2
forgive me if im wrong but dont wels catfish get upward of 10 feet? I wouldnt make it a single fish, so how about this stock
5-Crappie
5-Bass
2-Channel Cats
5-Bullhead
10-Longear Sunfish
Any Ideas on This? I know the sunnies would be eaten

Another "wish" thread. Make the pond, then ask your questions or people will flame you yet again.

Agreed, there is no point in planning what is going in it until it is built. Its all just wasted time and effort with any actual post people provide because chances are this pond will never actually see the light of day. Build the pond, then ask.

I don't know, I haven't had a comment on my actual pond thread in a month. Wish threads seem to be the way to go.

Guys this is only a 2000 gallon, it is not really all that big. IMO, a group of sunnies and maybe a catfish or two is all that would fit comfortably. No large predators like bass, pike, or musky unless you keep only 1 or 2 and nothing else and are prepared to bring live food all the time. Nothing is going to be able to breed and sustain their population in a 2000 gallon. Also if you stock turtles chances are they are gonna take off. Make sure your pond is deep. They need more depth for warmth and to avoid predation.

Not wide enough for Koi and not even close to deep enough.
I would do a single larger predator (LMB, pickerel etc.)

Not really.. $200 I think in the US. €10 for me :)
