Hey guys, I have been thinking about setting up a paludarium for a while now. The tank size I'm leaning towards is 75 gallons, but I could possibly go to a 90 gallon. What I want to ask you guys about is stocking, I have been doing research on different kinds of reptiles and which ones may be suitable for a paludarium set up, and to be honest, I am kind of lost in it all. I am thinking a couple lizards or a snake, maybe even frogs? Anyways, I am also lost in the aquatic part of stocking as well, as I want something that will be fast enough to get away from the lizards/snake/frogs if they decide they want an extra meal, but I also want some decent size and colour. A standard 75 gallon is 21 inches tall, and I guess I'll split it 50/50, so about ten inches of water. Last question, what should I do in terms of scaping the setup. I was thinking some nice pieces of driftwood that would go both in and out of the water, but I'm not sure what else. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with live plants, but I could try to get some included in the setup. Any and all advice is welcome, I have done quite a bit of research, but there is so much info out there, I'm really having trouble putting it all together.

P.S. I am a beginner when it comes to reptiles, but I know what I'm doing with fish, so keep that i mind when making your suggestions.:D

CaptainS has a friend who had a really cool vivarium built by exotic custom cages he got a chinese water dragon cage from them and it works great they do everything right it may be kinda pricey like in the thousands but the quality is outstanding they are one of the best reptile cage builders out there you might be interested if you want to buy one if you want to build one this is probably the wrong forum for you there are plenty of reptile forums that have a diy building section that can help you with building your vivarium just look up reptile forums on google because this is probably the wrong forum for reptiles and reptile cages but anyways take my advice in mind about the other forums because ive been on there and they have some diy geniuses on there but anyways good luck.

There are a few things you will need to consider, with one of the main things being how will you separate the land and the water areas?

Will you be doing this using pillars holding up the land area to maximize the amount of swimming area for the fish, or will you build up the land area from below the water surface, giving off a more natural look, but sacrificing the extra space?

When i still had my small paludarium i set it up so that there was aquairum soil all along the bottom of the tank, and then held it up using acrylic pillars, and built a land area all above water...

The problem i found with this setup was that my land area plants were getting burned a little bit as they grew taller and the plants inside the tank weren't getting enough light... so i would say other than choosing the right stock, getting the right plants will also be a big part of how well this will all work...
