Thinking about a Puffer

King Kng PUFFER!

Definitely go for the Valentini puffer... Just make sure it's the right kind (I've heard that certain saddleback puffers can get up to 5")... Other than that, they're likely your best choice and they'll completely devour any food you toss in there. Very fun to watch! :grinyes:

nope , these puffers require brakish , then after growing to 4 inches need to be slowly converted to full marine... in full marine they will reach almost a foot long. No one really understands these puffers and the work that goes with them.

problem with tobies/valentinies is if you do want to add fish in the future they are little agressive buggers for their size.

You could really almost do any SMALL puffer , if you plan on upgrading.... they take years to grow big.

i would do a congo or something predatory, although they stay hidden a lot in the sand unless you get an active one that will utlilize the whole tank. GSP's are fresh-brackish-marine with age, so unless your willing to go the extra mile i wouldnt bother and risk the fish. no they do not get almost a foot, they get between 5-6 inches(MAYBE just over 6 but not much at all) and the bare minimum tank for a GSP fully grown is 30 gallons which is just under what you currently have. it is true no one truely understands the effort of keeping puffers in general with making sure there are foods to keep their teeth trimmed, keeping an eye out for internal parasites, as well as treating for them, being able to tell by how the puffer is acting if its stressed and then checking your parameters, the close eye you have to keep on your params so that nothing gets out of whack, but thats all stuff that makes successfully keeping them more rewarding than your regular fish. i have had mine for a year now, its now fully marine and by far my most favorite fish i have ever kept and has the best personality as well. puffers are just amazing fish.

Our valentini wasn't very aggressive when it came to tank mates, more so food.... Then again, she did hang with a miniatus and a tesselata....:footinmou

Porcupine Puffer ! Most interactive fish and interesting fish available.

Mind you the tiny cute things get huge (18-24 in). So you'll have to upgrade in two years.
