Hey all. I won a miricles 180g euro rimless tank. External overflow starfire all that jazz - I think it's about $3,000 value, so really excited to win it. I have been kicking ideas around of what to do with it and was thinking a ray. I emailed a breeder about his male marbles and he said that his breeding male was about 18" and 1 male in a 180 would be ok.

I have been reading up quite a bit and am still doing research. I prefer bare bottom but maybe sand would be alright. With a large cool chunk of driftwood? Only if the wood doesn't take up too much floor space, like if it had some branches that elevated off the bottom.

Tank mates? I was thinking a large school of silver dollars as the only mates. Any other interesting guys? Electric blue jack dempsys are sure cool. Any pleco that are ok or just snails for algae?

Like I said, nothing in stone, just kicking ideas around.

What are the dimensions?

I'd contact C CODISCUS about his marbles. My male from him is looking like a mini marble with 3 row perimeter spotting.
And he's got some of the best quality rays in the country.

Mini marbles tend to Stay around 10in disc and would work well it your tank.

But any other rays would outgrow that tank very quickly

Where'd you win this at?

Talk to DB junkie DB junkie for local mini marbles.

I'd suspend the drift wood from the top and add a school silver dollars to swim around the wood.

72"x24" tank. I have found it hard to sift though the information on rays and tank sizes. Seems like there are lots of species confusion and mixed info. At least that has been my impression just getting into them. That is why I talked with that breeder, but it sounds like his advise was incorrect?

Appreciate the lead! Tank ships March 7th so I am in no hurry at all. Just brainstorming. I haven't even started getting equipment and plumbin yet, just modding a stand right now.

I might have a lead for wc Hystrix if you're interested.

It's a bit too soon, maybe in a month or two. I have not decided 100% if I am going this direction although I think I will be, but I doubt I will have the tank ready in a month.

Waaay to small of tank

For any ray? Is mini marble a different species?

That is the exact reason I posted the thread before I committed to anything including what the breeder related to me.

A 180 is fine for mini marbles and hystrix. Mini marbles are still marbled motoros, they just stay on the smaller side. Regular full sized marbles are 18-24". Mini marbles are usually 10-12".
