i have a 122 and been thinking about wether or not to buy a kitty or an ornate bichir i think the bichir would look cooler, but my wify dont like anything like looks like an eel, but i think i have almost talked her into it and have showed her a few vids on youtube of dif bichirs and i think she likes them. so the question is would an ornate live happily in a 122 or wouls i have to upgrade to a bigger tank and would it be compatable with my current stock list of 1 12" oscar 1 6" jd and 1 6" african cichlid?

it should live a dam long time in that tank. There a hardy fish from the ones i had and cichlids i had never tuched them. Like they new they wernt a threat

i have both delhizi and ornate- love them both. 122 gallons should be fine with your stock list. my dels are more "outgoing" than my ornate, but he is prettier i think.

What is the dimension of your 122g? I don't think the pH of the african cichlid would be similar to the bichir tho.

60in(length) x 18in(width) x 26in(height) and i dont attually know if he's an african i brother in law gave me the tank and fish to take care of and to buy if we(me and the wife) got attached to it. most likely will happen tho prob just buy him a new 125 if he wants it back tho lol.

The PH shouldn't be a major concern, as long as it is stable... So far I have been keeping mine at around 7, and my water is way soft, but none of the new birchirs I have recently acquired seem to care. And why wouldn't the African Ciclaids and Bichirs cohabitat in the same high PH water? they come from the same locations in Africa...

Guppy Breeder,

That 18" width may pose an issue later in life with your Ornate. These fish get to be 20"+ long in captivity, and it wouldn't be able to turn around in a tank that is shallower than its body is long...The same dilemma I am having with any of the tanks I find...

BTW the Delhezi is a better fit for your tank as they top out at 14" the one upper jaw I haven't found yet.
current stock-
Senegal-biggest/oldest @ 10"
Albino Sen-short body
Palmas Polli
Palmas Beutkofferi(sp?) - smallest at ~4"
Ornate - shyest so far

The tank could do good for 1-2 years. ;)
