Thinking about becoming a Kayak Fishing Guide

Thanks for the info man.

Boat traffic around me isnt that big of a problem. We dont have all of the canals and stuff like yall do down there that act as boat super highways. The sound is about a mile wide and the boats run in the channel in the middle where as we will be near shore. In the Gulf, I am over twenty miles from the closest pass so other then cobia season and the occasional sail boat its rare to see a boat running with in a mile or two of the beaches around here as they usually leave the pass and head south to go offshore. I will be doing small groups, up to five max. More than that and its hard to give each angler some one on one guidance plus I would like to be able to bring enough tackle, bait, gear, etc to cover anything we may come across.

I honestly believe I can put people on fish EVERYTIME. I have some redfish holes that in the summer its like fishing in a barrel and that is where Id take most of my clients. The kings and spanish are pretty easy to come by offshore and for the adventurous/in shape angler the wrecks a couple miles offshore have so many snapper on them that its hard to catch anything else even if you tried.

If you dont mind PM me and let me know honestly how well youre doing and any other insight you may have. I appreciate all youve said too.

So I played guide today and took a buddy of mine out for a really quick less than one hr of fishing time trip because he is moving out of state Thursday and it was his last chance to fish.

The seas were perfect so we went to a spot over in Desti and let me tell you with all of the eye candy on the beach from the spring breakers it was hard leaving the beach but alas the fish were calling our names and sadly we are getting too old for the little eighteen year olds in tiny bikinis now.

Anyway by the time we got there we hardly had any time to fish. We got some snapper and my buddy landed this twenty our inch hoss which towed him around a good bit. Too bad we had to let her swim away. It was fun being a guide and coaching him through the trip. He was on one of my boats, used my gear and rigs and bait supplied by me.

you can never be too old for that!!!

Looks like your first "guided" trip was a success! Nice work!

Do you need a guides license from the state?

What do you mean by that? I may be reading it wrong but are you saying you can buy a package deal with the yaks and a trailer for cheap?

I did meet a guy who is a rep for Wilderness Systems Kayaks and we talked awhile and he offered me a fantastic deal if I buy at least five. I may be selling my boat soon so if I do that I may go with a few Hobie Outbacks instead as they are so much easier to fish from.

I'm working right now but I'll send you the site they sell them cheap there okay kayaks but your better off with a cheap starter and later go on Craig's list and yard sales and you'll find them in almost new condition
