Gettin my new tank on sunday, i will be putting in a 8-9 inch male GT but i was also thinkin of buyin an arowana. Iv never owned one and i dont really know much about them. Are they cool to watch? Boring?
Tank not large enough. I wouldn't put an aro any smaller than 2' with a gt that size. You should plan on the aro reaching 3' and have a tank to house a fish that large
even the smallest aro's can easily exceed 2'. That tank would not be fine. Depending in the width it could last a jardini for a while but you would eventually need bigger.

You probably meant silvers, right? Jardinis and asians don't easily get bigger than 24", at least I haven't seen one.
An as small as 125g wide with a footprint of 6'L x 2'W with good filtration and 50% weekly water change can house a jardini fine by itself. Just my opinion.
Only the fish itself would know if it's being stressed or not, really! My 16-18" jar looks and acts as healthy and non-stressful in my 125g as when he was smaller and as any other fish I've seen. Though he could neither smile nor frown to really express his feeling
About the tank's height, I understand completely about water volume playing a role in keeping the water condition more staple. But it still does not matter as much as the length and width in my world, although I respect your opinion. Not everyone could have a tank as big as he/she would like, and if something had to give, I'd rather have wider dimension than height for the same volume of a tank.
If one would love to raise a jardini and could commit oneself to the needed frequent water changes, good diet, etc. for the fish, but could not afford a tank bigger than 125g with 6' long, I would not say no to him/her.
