Thinking About Constructing a Monster Aquarium Yourself?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im plannin on a 250-280 gal plywood tank with a fake-rock-foam face im my new appartment. i'd do this part time this automne-winter since im actually workin on my custom home bar. i have a digit camera so i'll do a lil documentary video n post it when it'll be over. already have all da wood i need.

my wild dream for when i'll have a house is a pound, next to a house wall, with a glass window in the basement so u can see under-water from the inside, and enjoy da pound from the outside. dunno if u guys follow me? living in quebec, cold temperatures don't offer me large choices of fish, so probaly couple of big koi. i have not checked if its possible, but u want real hard, there's always a way! haha

by da way, EVERYBODY here wants to see ur article dude!

I have been very busy with my latest outdoor tropical fish aquarium construction project, which should be finished this coming week. I have about 45 monster aquarium fish, mostly from the Amazon, to move as soon as the resin coating the plywood and the Silicone II window gasket/sealer have cured. I will post the details including cost and source of materials in the next month or so.

Not all of you want an aquarium this large nor do you have the space to situate a monster tank of this size. I will provide some ideas on smaller DIY aquariums however, at some point it is less expensive to purchase an aquarium from the store or acquire a used aquarium. Check out eBay and Craig’s list for a “local purchase” fish tank.

This is a photo of my 16 foot by 12 foot by 6 foot high 8000-gallon aquarium with walls in place. The framework for two cell-cast Acrylic windows, 4 foot by 8 foot each 1-1/2” thick is nearly complete.

I'm excited to see everything and read some of your articles!!!!

I am also planning on building a tank I am unsure of what to do yet, I bought a new house with an unfinished basement just so I can build a VERY Large tank. I would love to see some plans.

My 8000-gallon outdoor plywood aquarium tank is nearly finished. The polyester resin coating with fiberglass over the seams was a 12-hour non-stop effort. The two 4’ by 8’ by 1-1/2” thick 300 pound cell cast Acrylic windows go in tomorrow if all the crew shows up.
